Designing High-Performance Tyre Shop: Industrial Precision for the Affluent Client
Firm: Houz Design
Scope: Commercial Interior Architecture & Experience Design Client Goal: To establish the premier tyre service destination, appealing specifically to clients requiring high-level precision and a refined, luxury-grade environment.
The Premise: Efficiency Meets Elegance
The commission for RE TYRE required us to execute a seemingly contradictory design: marry the brute-force utility of an industrial workshop with the serene cleanliness of Modern Minimalism. The clientele—a high-disposable-income demographic—demanded that the space communicate trust, technology, and quiet discipline, not grime.
This project sits at the forefront of our work in Commercial Retail Interior Design, demonstrating how architectural finesse can transform operational necessity into a luxury experience. Our central challenge was simple: how do you build a five-bay service operation into a limited, predetermined shoplot shell, and make it feel spacious, organized, and sophisticated? We knew every structural obstruction had to be transformed into a deliberate design element.

Overcoming the Structural Conflict
1. The Monolithic Pillars
The initial floor plan was immediately fraught with structural complexity: a series of necessary load-bearing columns choked the flow. We refused to treat them as obstacles to be hidden, as concealment would have inevitably led to an awkward, shrinking of the workspace.
Instead, we decided to celebrate them as monolithic anchors. We wrapped each pillar in a textured, light grey micro-cement finish. This application gives them permanence and a sculptural weight, integrating them visually into the industrial theme while maintaining the light, crisp overall tone. Functionally, these pillars became the service hubs, with subtle vertical strips concealing power access and air hose connections. They became points of utility rather than points of frustration.
2. The Choreography of Five Lifts
The requirement for five hydraulic lifts in a limited depth was a severe logistical puzzle. Simple linear placement was impossible. We approached this not as a fitting problem, but as disciplined choreography.
By utilizing a staggered, subtly angled layout, we created clear sightlines and ensured generous turning radius for high-end vehicles, eliminating the risk of internal congestion. The high-performance concrete floor, finished in a continuous light grey epoxy, contains no visual clutter; the boundaries of the five service zones are defined only by faint, tonal grey lines. The design ensures that even during peak operation, the space never feels chaotic—a key factor for a client base that values efficiency above all.

The Sensory Palette
The Ceiling as a Visual Filter
The complex network of plumbing, wiring, and ductwork required for five high-power service bays threatened to overwhelm the ceiling plane. A solid ceiling would have complicated maintenance and felt oppressive.
Our solution was the installation of a custom expanded metal mesh canopy. Suspended strategically, this lightweight, charcoal-toned ceiling acts as a perforated veil. It successfully screens the mechanical clutter above, creating a calm, uninterrupted visual field from the workshop floor, while still honoring the industrial aesthetic and ensuring all services remain easily accessible. It’s a piece of architectural trick that uses illusion to improve the appearance yet it keeps the building's purpose clear.
The Retreat of Deep Contrast (The Restroom)
To provide an element of luxurious surprise, the restroom facility was designed as a deliberate, sensory inversion of the light-filled workshop.
This space employs a dark, immersive charcoal palette, utilizing textured slate tiling and matte-finish walls that absorb light. This intentional darkness creates a sense of privacy and sophistication. All fixtures and accessories, from the minimalist floating basin to the faucets, are specified in precision matte black bathware. The lighting is minimal and targeted, allowing the high-quality materials to provide the texture, confirming to the clientele that every element of the building has been considered and upgraded.
Conclusion
RE TYRE is a testament to the fact that industrial utility and luxury refinement are not mutually exclusive.
