A Comfy Home of a Young Family: Functional Design With a Touch of Thoughtfulness

Creating a home for a young family of three—a couple and their little one—required a delicate balance of warmth, practicality, and timeless design in one of a luxury condo in Mont Kiara.

Designing a home for a young family of three, a couple and their young teenager requires a dedicated balance of warmth, practicality and timeless design. It was inspired by the thought of creating a place that fosters bonding and also takes into consideration the changing requirements of a growing family. The guiding ideas were based on open living-room concept to spend time together, cozy small separate areas to have a rest, and playful touches to make the house look comfortable and feel inviting for both adults and children.

Creativity in Solving Problems

The initial setbacks were that of optimizing the layout so that movement between different areas is unhampered and the different functional areas are still well defined. The task was to achieve no cramped impression and as much storage as possible since the family has a young child. Through re-conceptualisation of spatial plans we were able to present built-in wardrobes and convertible furniture thus making sure that living spaces are clutter free without sacrificing on design.

Considerate Building & Materials Choice

The project was open to the mix of modern and natural materials- warm timber accents with clean-lined finishes to make the relaxing and at the same time modern environment. The spatial planning was done with the priority of having an open concept living and dining room to encourage family communication and the bedrooms were created as peaceful retreats. Natural lighting was permitted to pour into the interiors through strategic glazing that also gave the interiors the feeling of space.

It was implemented in a team effort, and a combination of good craftsmanship and clever design. With features like stylish and durable flooring, rounded edges that are child friendly, every detail was taken into consideration to make it a growing family home.
