Inspiration & Major Design Ideas

This Bukit Jalil condo was built in a contemporary, minimalist style - clean white surfaces counterpointed with strong black accents to achieve a classic, yet moving appearance. The idea was to create a family friendly environment that is Sophisticated and inviting.

The important factors are:

A black and white color scheme (white walls, cabinetry, and furniture with black fixtures and details) to achieve a smooth and unified appearance.

Open plan living spaces to increase natural lighting and family communication.

Intelligent storage ideas to keep the place clutter free, which is extremely essential in case of a family of four.

But tone down the modern aspect by using warm wood tones in a few select places to make it warm and inviting.

The architecture is a balance between modern luxury and family function and every area is designed to be beautiful and functional.

Challenges & Setbacks

A condominium interior renovation is subject to special limitations and this project was not an exception. Among some of the major challenges were:

Space Limitations: Storage was maximized without sacrificing the open, airy atmosphere through creative built-ins and multipurpose furniture.

Material Selection: It was important to seek quality material that was also durable as far as the finishes are concerned, to match the modern theme, and at the same time, consider a material that is family friendly (scratch free, easy to clean).

Condominium Regulations: There was a need to be in close coordination with the management to adhere to building policies as far as structural changes & demolition of wall were concerned.

Such challenges were overcome over time through adequate preparations and collaboration with professional team.

Construction Techniques and Material Choices

Principal Materials

Laminated Cabinetry (White & Dark Grey): Durable, cleanable and smooth.

Porcelain Tiles: These tiles were set in the living room to attain the open look and feel of porcelain tiles.

Engineered Wood Flooring (Bedrooms): Warm underfoot and durable against scratches.

Matte Black Fixtures (Door handles, lighting, faucets): Adds contrast and luxury.

Spatial Configuration & Execution

Open-Plan Living/Dining: Increases natural lighting and togetherness as a family.

Minimalist Kitchen: White high-gloss cabinets and black countertops provide a very modern, but practical working surface.

Bedrooms: Built-In Wardrobes: Best use of space and keeps the room uncluttered.

Balcony Integration: It was turned into a comfortable resting place, furnished with weatherproof furniture.

This was achieved by careful 3D design, meticulous construction and attention to long-lasting, but beautiful materials to create a house that works absolutely perfectly with contemporary family living.
